About the Anthology
The “EGBVF: Ending Gender-Based Violence Fellowship – An Anthology of Essays” is a reflection of the transformative potential of youth-led scholarship and advocacy in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV). This anthology brings together the compelling work of fellows who, over two months of immersive engagement and critical learning, explored the complex, intersectional dimensions of GBV and the urgent need for systemic and community-based responses. Grounded in empathy, equity and a commitment to justice, these essays go beyond academic discourse to present real-world insights and action-oriented ideas.
The EGBVF program was designed to equip emerging leaders with the knowledge, tools, and critical frameworks needed to challenge and dismantle the structural conditions that perpetuate gender-based violence. Through the lens of intersectionality, fellows examined how caste, class, religion, disability, sexuality and other identities shape experiences of violence and access to justice. Rather than isolating these issues, the fellowship fostered a holistic approach- highlighting the interconnections between law, public policy, grassroots activism and survivor-centered support systems.
This anthology reflects that holistic and inclusive approach. The essays explore diverse themes: from community-led initiatives and state accountability, to legal reform, survivor narratives, education and mental health in the context of GBV. What unites these contributions is a shared commitment to systemic change and social transformation. By highlighting the voices of the marginalized and amplifying innovative interventions, this collection serves as a vital resource for policymakers, civil society actors, educators and advocates alike.
At its core, this anthology underscores the belief that addressing gender-based violence requires more than awareness- it demands structural change, collective responsibility and intersectional solidarity. The essays presented here offer fresh perspectives, challenge conventional thinking and propose actionable solutions that honor the dignity and agency of survivors while holding systems accountable. They are a testament to the fellows’ dedication to creating a world that is safe, equitable, and just for all. We hope the insights shared in this collection inspire readers to reflect, engage, and take action.
While the challenges surrounding gender-based violence are complex and deeply rooted, they are not insurmountable. With informed, compassionate leadership and inclusive collaboration, progress is not only possible- it is imperative. This anthology stands as both a culmination of the fellows’ learning journey and a call to all readers to become part of the movement to end gender-based violence. When knowledge, empathy and action come together, lasting change becomes a reality.
